50@50 Day 20: Ding Dong

1/200sec 50mm f/2 ISO 200

Today was a pretty relaxed day with no real excitement. I was itching for an item for today’s photo, so I took a look around the house. I found this sitting on a windowsill. I immediately thought I was in a hotel, or even a business of some sort.It isn’t too often you find push top bells in your house. The nice thing about this bell is the detail on the base and the bell itself. I am pretty sure this is old, because I looked underneath and the set up for how this functions seems old. The metal hammer underneath looks rusty and worn. Either way, old or new, it gave me something to work on today.

In post I played around with some color toning, cropped and rescaled the image to give it that close up look, and gave a slight vignette. I often wonder about the old trinkets and knick knacks in this house and what their story was before they found their way to one of our shelves, or windowsills. Just think about all of the artifacts you have in your house and the trip they took to get to where they are now. How many of those still hold some meaning to you, and how many of them are lost on you (their meaning)?

Until tomorrow.
