50@50 Day 15: Warped Wood

1/640sec 50mm f/5 ISO 100

If you follow my twitter then you will notice this image from one of my instagram shots. I wanted to play around with it a lot more at home with a much more powerful post production kit. I searched through the 30 or so different shots I had of his and found one to work with.

I got the idea for this shot from a free video from Karl Taylor, where he was shooting at the beach and found a large piece of debris to put against the coming waves. It is just an element of change and dynamic that adds to the scene. Unfortunately for me, the sun was coming from the coast and not the water, so I couldn’t get a cool sunset photo like that (I will find one of the beaches that faces the correct way though). It took me a bit of time to get this look, and it was something that I enjoyed getting. I really love opening up all of the aspects of Lightroom when I am editing sometimes. It is a great way to learn, especially when you don’t have any real deadlines to meet. I was going for a color photo at first, but I thought the black and white version came out nicer. It isn’t a case of “black and white photos make everything look better,” because that is definitely not true. This time, it just so happened it looked better for me.

This was a fun image to capture because again I was fighting the mighty elements of the 1inch waves crashing down below me as I squatted down. A wet butt is something you have to deal with when you are trying to capture magic, people. One or two more shots to come in this series, so stay tuned. Let me know if you all have a fun adventure planned for the weekend to capture some photos.

Until tomorrow.
